Quote: "Put light against light - you have nothing. Put dark against dark - you have nothing. It's the contrast of light and dark that each give the other one meaning."

Crystal is 5'10. Her build is average; not skinny or in particularly excellent shape, but not heavy either. She has long shoulder length wavy blond hair. She has blue eyes with a swirl of green around the pupil and specks of white scattered throughout. Her face is more round in shape, Crystal's normal attire is a blue robe, with a simple spacer attire underneath. She prefers dark blues and purples whenever possible. She occasionally may wear jeans, tennis shoes and whatever random t-shirt she happens to have.

Face Claim: Melissa Benoist

Personality:

Crystal is a quiet person, but not in a good way. She likes to avoid people whenever possible because she doesn’t trust them.

Most wouldn't guess she's so anti-social because of her ability to smile at the drop of a hat and be friendly. She is also inherently helpful, but that doesn't mean she actually likes people, she just likes doing something of purpose and enjoys helping others. She is afraid to trust and loose anyone else. She is actually intensely angry, deep down and has issues controlling her emotions. She wishes she knew more about her parents. She wants to avenge Riley whom she assumes has been killed, despite the nightmares that plague her of his torture at the hands of the Chiss.

Crystal is a fool for animals, for as long as she could remember she has been able to calm and speak with animals as if they were friends. True they didn't talk back, but she could sense their heart and intentions. She prefers animals to people due to her being highly empathic, that may be another reason she likes to help. That way instead of bad feelings she can feel good ones.

She has a hard time focusing on the here and now, either she has an internal dialog with herself, or is carried away by flights of fancy and distant thoughts. No matter how hard she tries to focus these come frequently. The only thing that seems to truly still her mind, is the sound of running water.

                                                          Important possessions:

Aside from her clothing and weapons, the only possession she has is a blue crystal that once belonged to her mother; this crystal had been passed through her family for generations. A wise man once said; ‘It’s true power can only be used by one, and that one will come from your line, keep it safe till then.’ Since then it has been passed down, but over the years it has been fashioned into a necklace to easily keep it safe and always with its guardian. However, when Crystal received it from her mother it glowed brightly; something it had never done before. (It is still a mystery what powers it may hold, but Crystal always wears it around her neck hidden close to her heart).

                                                                     Introduction:

A war has raged for time immemorial. It is not the type of war that is merely for land, riches or fame. No this war is for people. Stealing people, using them and brainwashing them. Only the foolish think that a person has no worth. Every single person carries within them potential to save… or destroy worlds. The only reason most never realize this is that they believe the popular lie, saying they are worthless. If only people would see just how valuable they are. Then not only can one world change, but all of them could!

                                                                       History:

Crystal was 6 years old when she lost everything. She cannot remember life before then. Her  oldest memory is of that day. How her mother and father fought while she was taking off on a small shuttle to parts of the galaxy unknown. She remembers it vividly, as the red and blue lightsabers clashed.

Crystal spent the next several years of her life running from planet to planet, begging and miraculously having favor with kind souls as she wandered in the far reaches of a less traveled part of the galaxy. Unfortunately, she could never stay long. Bad things always seemed to happen. At first she thought she just had bad luck when it came to going to new planets. Then she realized she was being followed.

A mysterious Chiss, followed her everywhere she went. Though Crystal always got away she noticed that the woman would take people that were different, like her. Force sensitive individuals.

Her ship crashed hard into the water. At first it was thought to be a meteor, but when it turned to avoid an imminent collision with their camp they knew it had to be a manned ship. Riley rushed over, sending people for medical aid and reinforcements. Just in case.

A shuttle floated at the lakes center and before anyone knew what was happening Riley had dove in, swimming towards the ship. He forced the large doors open and slid inside, moving to the cockpit. The first thing he saw was a young girl unconscious. She had laser burns on her arms and legs consistent with blaster fire.

This unsettled everyone a great deal. Riley waited for the girl to awaken as he tended to her injuries never leaving her bedside. It didn’t take long for fear to grip the entire heart of the community about who this mysterious visitor could be and what dangers had come in pursuit of her.

                                                                 Several Days Later:

Crystal lifted her heavy eyelids to see a man (Riley) looking down at her with a kind smile. She should have been afraid, but something about him made her calm. It was the sort of smile that you couldn’t help but, smile back at.

Riley spoke first. “You’ve been through a lot there young lady.” He looked at her with compassion. “My name’s Riley…”

The girl blinked and cleared her throat “Crystal…my name is Crystal.” She sat up a bit more, surprised not to see a guard or that the man wasn’t armed.

Riley smirked knowingly. “I’m willing to bet you have a story to tell, but I’m guessing you’re not wanting to share?”

Crystal was at a loss for words “I-”

“Don’t worry, the only thing that matters is whoever did that to you...” He said pointing at her bandages “Isn’t going to come here.”

Crystal nodded “Of that I’m certain.” She said a bit gravely.

Riley nodded. “Well then!” He grinned as he rose. “That settles that, are you feeling up for a tour? Some breakfast can be our first stop!” He offered her his hand.

Smiling Crystal took it.

                                                                  3 Months ago:

The children laughed as they listened to the one the adults called Crazy Riley. He had lived on this planet for years, he wasn’t very old; probably late thirties, at most, early forties. Despite that there was an air of experience about him. He was always telling the youth stories of moral codes, the value of one person in the tides of history and of battle. No one really knew much about the man except that he was very skilled when it came to hunting, making tools and weapons.

Crystal smiled as she listened in on his stories. She had only been here a handful of months, but from the start Riley had shown her just the kind of person he was.

Crystal seemed to have a way with younglings. She was able to keep them calm when no one else could. Soon she was the official sitter for all the little ones in the community about 20 or so young children and a few older ones that she had as she called it ‘Deputized’ to be her assistants.

When she wasn’t with the children she was watching the various happenings of the village. Learning what she could by watching and listening. One such job she enjoyed watching was the herdsmen. During a bad storm one of the beasts had gotten lost. She managed to find it and bring it back despite the torrent of rain, but because of this she got very sick and was bedridden for a few days.
That meant someone else was watching the children. The young man took the children out to play in one of the fields. While out there a vicious beast that none had ever seen before came upon them. It was on all fours; similar to a wolf, with large fangs, its fur was striped; with varying shades of blue in color.
Picture
The Children screamed and ran as the young man took off shouting for people with weapons.

In all the commotion, Crystal despite how she felt came out as well. She heard someone say something about a monster and running faster than she had ever run before, arrived as one of the older children threw rocks shouting for the beast to leave. Men with lances were racing towards the scene.

Crystal held up her hands. “Stay back!” Any sign of sickness gone, as she dashed between the beast and its intended prey. “It’s ok…” She soothed. “We won’t hurt you, there’s no need to hurt them.”

One man prepared to flank it, but Riley stopped him “No, let her do this.” Everyone looked at him as if he were mad, but obeyed.

Crystal got on her knees nearer to the beast as it snarled at her. “It’s ok, you see them?” She pointed to the people. “This meal will cost your life, you’re better off going after other prey. Not two legged ones. There’s no need for anyone to die.” She smiled to the beast. “Please, go hunt somewhere else.”

As the creature walked closer to Crystal, the community drew in a collective breath. It sniffed her warily, then stared at her. It gazed in her eyes; Crystal’s eyes were steady, Unwavering, no fear. It nudged her with its nose, then snorted and turned. Glancing back at her then padded off.

Crystal smiled and got up. People began to exclaim that she was either the bravest person they had ever met or the craziest.

                                                                    1 Month ago:

Riley worked on a farming tool in his shop and smiled when Crystal walked in. “Ah good timing.”

Crystal looked a little nervous. “You asked for me?” She wrung her hands anxiously.

Riley smiled “Nothing to worry about, I wanted to know if you were interested in learning how to make tools?”

Crystal smiled. “Sure!” She hurried over to his side.

Riley chuckled and began to teach her, it never ceased to amaze him how eager she was to learn, anything. In the short time she had been here, he had taught her various things, about survival and first aid. He noticed she was always listening when anyone talked and never seemed to forget what she heard. “You know, I haven’t met someone so young with such a hunger for knowledge before.”

Crystal blushed. “The more you know the more you can do.” She ducked her head.

Riley chuckled. “That is a true statement.” He grinned as he showed her a few more types of tools he made, but then moved on to weapons. He noticed a hesitation on learning, but still she approached it with the same eagerness as the rest.

Crystal finished making her first blaster. “Ok, how’s that?” She handed it over to him.

Riley looked it over. “Well done. Now, take it apart.”

Crystal nodded. “Okay…”

As she was engulfed into this task. Riley moved to a small place in the side of his shop then returned. “Crystal, I think it’s time you told me what happened… to bring you here.” Riley approached, a small box under his arm.
Crystal stiffened, her hands froze in mid air. A moment or two later she gently sat the partly dismantled blaster down. She trembled slightly. Biting her lower lip. Looking much like a rabbit ready to bolt.

Riley took a seat. “Please. Just me, you don’t have to tell anyone else.”

Crystal looked to him and saw that same smile. The one that had reassured her the first time she had met him; moving over she nodded “Okay.” She took a seat across from him “I… have been traveling a long time.” She put her hand on her chest, and pulled out from beneath her shirt a long crystal, blue in color. It glowed softly in her hand “My mom, this belonged to her. I don’t remember her that well. I remember her telling me I had to go. Being on a ship alone, and then being on the run ever since. I would go to one city and then, these scary people would show up-”

Riley opened his mouth when he saw the crystal, but exhaled and closed it. No. Later. As she continued he leaned forward. “Scary people?”

Crystal nodded. “I don’t know who, or what they are. Some wore long dark robes and some had strange armor and masks on. I just knew I wanted to stay away from them, but it would be the same. Every time, I’d get away and then they’d find me a little while later. The last time they actually caught me on a ship. I-I learned from a man a while back how to hack computers. I sliced the containment field I was put in. Got all the others to escape pods, then hacked the computer and set it to self-destruct. Then launched the rest, I... just wanted them to stop chasing me!” She pled for him to understand, she wasn’t proud of what she had done, just desperate. "I took a ship that was being decommissioned."

Riley looked up to see tears in her eyes, he could hardly believe what he was seeing. Is she actually crying tears for the ones that hunted and hurt her? I knew she had a kind heart, But- “It’s ok..” He cooed. “There’s more to it than that isn’t there? Who were the ‘Others’ you spoke of?”

Crystal began to tremble. “They didn’t just come after me, but other people. They took them away. The creepy devil woman, she would single people out of crowds and tell them who to take.”

Riley nodded. “But there’s still more, Crystal I know that you have-“ He cleared his throat. “Special abilities.” He chose his words delicately. “That gift you have with the children, you sing to them. I’ve heard it. It brings them such calm. As if your sharing the feelings of love and peace in your own heart with them. It’s a very special ability. Just like your ability to stop that beast from attacking you and the children.”

Crystal lowered her head. “I…” She hesitated. “Yes, I can also, feel what other people feel. Most of the time. I think that’s why I’m able to trust you, but that woman, she took other people that could do things too and-”

Riley sighed. “Crystal. The woman.” He opened the box pulling out a Lightsaber. “Did she carry one of these?”

Crystal went wide-eyed and jumped up getting back from him, but was trapped with the wall at her back. “Your one of them!?”

Riley shook his head. “Calm down. This is a weapon yes, but like a blaster it can be in the hands of both good and evil people.”

Crystal calmed, but still shook. “Y-yes, s-she carried one. She killed those that resisted them. Ex-except the ‘special’ ones, she would just hurt them.”

Riley nodded. “Crystal, there is a Force. The Force is within every living being. It holds the universe together and those that connect to the Force are capable of doing things some deem impossible. I would like you to let me teach you about The Force. To understand it and seek it’s will.”

He explained that there were those who used the powers The Force granted them to commit evil, while there were those who used those powers in a mission to perform good deeds. Yet, a small handful of individuals actually seek to understand The Force. To obey Its will. Not to bend this power to their own motives, but weigh out their actions based on what they are guided through The Force to do. He explained that the first two types of study; used what many called ‘The Darkside’, and the other ‘The Lightside’. These were misnomers as there was only ‘One Force’ and it was not, dark or light. In fact it was balanced, The Will of The Force was mysterious and that was what he, and other ‘Grey Jedi’ sought to understand and obey. It would be a lie to say they didn’t at times serve their own wills, but their mission was to grow in connection with The Force. To walk the narrow path that only few had trod before. This was the way he would teach her. Not to use the force in a sense of selfishness, but to seek communion with The Force; that is connected to all things and in all people. Thus they could make decisions with far reaching ramifications for the betterment of all planets and species!

                                                                    Present Day:

Crystal was looking forward to her next lesson. She and Riley weren’t really able to talk at great length and had to wait long periods in between lessons about The Force. There was still so much she didn’t understand. Though he still taught her many other things; for their ‘special lessons’ they were only able to meet once a week for an hour or so. This left her so anxious and eager for the next time and today would be her 4th class. He said he’d finally help her with her nightmares and tell her something about her crystal. She hurried to finish a few tools she was working on. She had gotten pretty good at this and really enjoyed it.

Picture
Suddenly a dark shadow appeared in the sky. Riley stood up, a serious expression on his face. “Crystal!” He called to her. “Get the children, take them to the bunker.”

Crystal’s heart skipped a beat, when she saw the ship, and just knew. “It-it’s…” She stammered.

“Crystal! Go!” Riley rushed into his shop.

Crystal bolted, swift as possible she gathered the children.

When Riley emerged he rushed to the elders, hunters and guards gathered. “No weapons, don’t fight. Stay calm, Crystal has the children safe. Do not speak, let me do the talking. Just stay back and no matter what, do no react.”

When the large ship landed, they would see several smaller ships land as well. One had a very strange design. It probably could hold about 10 people in it, unlike the 1-2 people ships, but the big one looked like it could hold 2-3 villages of people. As the bay doors opened. The woman Crystal had described emerged along with several Mandalorians around her.

Picture
The woman spoke to the Mandalorian nearest her, but no one could hear her. The Mandalorian nodded and then sent his men through the camp. Riley stood in the middle of the city with the rest of the people.

Several Mandalorian’s walked up and pointed their guns at the crowd as the camp was searched.

The woman walked up looking at each person then stopping. “Hmmm…” She looked to Riley and smirked beneath her hood. “Some ones hiding something, or should I say someone?” She look at the crowd and then drew her light saber pointing it to one man. “What are you hiding?” She spoke calmly, yet with a sinister tone.

The man panicked and fell backwards landing in a sitting position. “Please, I-I… They hid the children. In a bunker. Under the silo. Don’t hurt me!” He cowered under his arms. Gripped in terror.

Riley grit his teeth. He was going to have to make his move now.

The woman pointed to Riley. “Him. Take him!” She ordered and stalked toward the Silo.

Riley drew his light saber and killed the first unsuspecting Mandalorian, but the rest wouldn’t be so easy.

Picture
Crystal was singing a soft song to keep the babies calm as well as the others. Though inside, her heart was going a mile a minute. She heard the door open, her first thought was they were gone. However she sensed something. She knew it was ‘that woman’. They were trapped! There was nowhere to run. Crystal passed the baby in her arms quickly to one of the older boys, and tried desperately to think of some kind of plan.

The woman strode in. “Hmm, interesting indeed.” She smirked as she passed through the children directly to Crystal narrowing her eyes. “Clever, he masked you from me.”

Crystal stared back at her, not really knowing better than to look away. Unease twisted in her stomach as the woman smiled. Her heart quickened. If she only had a weapon!

The woman chuckled. “Good…” She called to a pair of Mandalorian’s standing outside, pointing to a few young children, one of the older ones and a baby. “Take those and put the rest with the crowd.”

Crystal moved. “No!” A powerful blow struck her in the stomach. She was sent flying back a few yards slamming into the wall of the bunker. She hit the ground with a groan. Yet no one had touched her. This made the children scream and panic.
The Mandalorians easily began grabbing and corralling the little ones.
The woman shook her head walking up. “He hasn’t taught you much has he?” She picked her up by her collar. “Well, we’ll fix that.” She gave a vicious smirk.

Crystal grabbed the woman’s wrist with one hand and hit the woman’s arm with her elbow. She was dropped, but unlike before she landed low on all four, catlike. She stayed ducked and moved to sweep the evil woman off her feet. However she only hit air. A cackle. As another hit that she didn’t see knocked her back into the wall again, but this time she was pinned. She struggled in vain. Can’t breathe!

The woman sneered. “You have fight, but you don’t stand a chance.”

Crystal grit her teeth, pulling against the force that held her. Desperate to get air, and break free from the wall. She started to lift her arms a few inches away.

The Chiss narrowed her eyes. “You escaped me far too many times little girl. No more playing nice.” She pulled her arm back then shoved it forward quickly. A massive dent went into the wall around Crystal.

Crystal went limp and was released. She struck the ground with a thud. Something was broken, maybe several thing’s. This children, I have to, have to stop her! Using what strength she had, she managed to get to her knees, but a foot landed between her shoulder blades sending her face into the floor again.

The woman shook her head “Don’t know when to give up do you? That will cause you a lot of pain where you’re going.” She pushed down firmly then spoke to the Mandalorian who returned “She goes on my ship, the others on the Main ship. Oh, and secure her.” She lifted her foot. “She’s feisty.” The woman sniggered as she ascended the steps.

Powerful hands grabbed Crystal’s arms, wrenching them back harshly. Something affixed to her wrists, then something on her ankles. She was then yanked up and hoisted over the Mandalorian’s shoulder. Lightning bolts of pain coursed through her. Still, Crystal squirmed and tired to struggle. The pain and her position made it hard to breathe, her sight swam in and out of focus. Eventually she stopped as she was carried outside.

What Crystal saw outside horrified her, all the people were cowering in a huddle and… “Riley!” she said seeing her friend lying on the ground not moving. Crystal struggled trying to get free all the more fiercely now. Ignoring any pain within her.
A pair of Mandalorian’s dragged Riley onto a stretcher and secured him to it carrying him inside saying something about interrogation.

“Listen you’re not getting free and if you don’t want me to hurt you, then you’ll be still!” The Mandalorian warned.

Crystal growled as she fought all the more.

The Mandalorian gave a half laugh. “Like your spirit kid, but I have my orders.” He pulled out a small remote and pressed a button on it. His suit protected him from the shock the girl received as she screamed and the fight in her ebbed away. “That’s better.”

                                                 Unknown amount of time later:

Crystal woke to alarms and a shaking ship. She was strapped down securely to a bed, a machine monitoring her vitals. A loud commotion was going on outside. The door to the room opened and Crystal smiled. “Riley!”

A light saber quickly cut her free as he grabbed her hand. “Move!” He pulled her arm. “No time to explain, we’re getting off this ship!” They were almost out, but that woman stood  between them and a small shuttle docked to the larger ship. “Stand down Kwi Edas!”

She smiled and ignited her light saber. “Funny, I was going to say the same. Riley Ashen.” The pair rushed at each other, but with each blow it became more clear how evenly matched they were. When one attacked the other blocked, neither was giving an inch.

“Crystal… the ship, get her ready!” Riley pushed her back and when Kwi moved to block Crystal he used the Force to shove her away and get between the two.

Crystal slipped past them, but the moment she was in the cock pit she blinked seeing the system had her locked out. “Wha-?” She turned and raced for the door. However, the ship disengaged from the dock and started on auto pilot. “Riley!” She shouted, banging on the door. It was then she could see blood seeping through the back of his clothing.

“Don’t worry.” The voice, she didn’t know how but it was as if Riley was in the room with her. “You’ll be ok. Survive. Grow, know that the Force will always be wi-”

“Riley!” Crystal didn’t hear him anymore. As Kwi Edas’ ship faded into the distance, her shuttle made a jump to light speed. Crystal collapsed into the captains seat of the cockpit. Where is this thing going? What do I do? Tears began to flow down her cheeks. The second time she had to watch someone she cared about send her away, to protect her. “I, must learn more about the force. Grow stronger. Then stop that woman for good!”

Crystal leaned back, but there was a lump her leg hit beneath her seat. She pulled out a datapad, it was heavily encrypted, but she knew how to get past that easily enough.

Log #1:

I have been watching our new arrival for the past few months; Crystal easily slid into the background of this village as if she had always been here. They have even trusted her with watching the children. One day I went to stop by and heard her singing. Even I was affected by her song. A calm and peace I had not felt in such abundance before.

It was at that moment I knew I needed to speak with her about her past, and her future.

Log #2:

We sat down and she told me all about what had happened. Considering all she had been though and what she had seen it is amazing that she has no real anger toward others. She sees things in such an innocent perspective if not naïve. Though a major problem I see is a penchant for blaming herself. That is where her anger is directed.

I need to help her, I can sense all of her untapped potential and the more I’m around her, the more I have a better feel of what she is capable of.

Log #3:

She is such a quick learner, it is a shame that we have to limit our more ‘specialized training’ to once a week, but I know how the people of this planet will react should they see someone working with The Force.

Even with that in mind, I see that she listens and watches not only everything I do, but everyone around her. I’ve heard the villagers call her nosey, but it is a trait that is very useful, and kept her alive. One should learn lessons wherever you can, after all.

Though I must be careful I have already begun to grow very protective of her. That could be used against me.

Log #4:

Another amazing lesson today, it seems the more she learns from me. The more I learn about her. I have never taught someone this complex. She hides a great many things within her. She has a strong sense of right and wrong. Wanting justice to be done, but she hates confrontation. Even to the point where she would rather run away. I have to be careful how I teach her, she seems easily discourage and that insecurity could be deadly to her. Knowing how she watches me I will be subtly teaching her how to overcome it this next week.

Log #5:

As expected she took notice of my hinting. It will not be swiftly remedied, but she is very introspective and aware of the problem now. We spent a great deal of time in meditation and clearing the mind today. She wasn’t aware of the fact that I was sensing deeper into her abilities and now I have a good idea of what her true prowess will be as she grows. Now I can train her more properly to her strengths.

These are the gifts I can see growing strongest in her, they are only in infancy now, but I see them growing so much more powerful:

Force Heal; I foresee her even being able to bring the newly dead or dying back to full health. I see she has done this once before, though at high cost to herself.

Dreams & Visions; Now, they are mostly vague and confusing, but I see them growing much more detailed and frequent as she is trained.

Intense Empathy; She has the ability to feel pain and emotions so strongly it feels as if they are happening to her. Due to this she has the potential to connect with people easily; to form and break strong bonds.

Offensive Empathy; Thanks to the intensity of her empathic abilities she can take what she feels and cause another to feel it, an ‘attack of conscience’ if you will. She has used it to make bullies and oppressors feel what their victims felt.

I have seen her move something using the force, but only as a reaction to emotional stimuli, to move a person or child from harm’s way or shoving things away from her from emotional outbursts. I had taken her to where her ship crashed and she was unable to even attempt to lift a rock let alone the ship. I lifted it, and taught her from the experience. I of course hid the ship and have been making repairs on it ever since

She’s not limited to these abilities, but I foresee these becoming her greatest powers.

She also seems to have these passive abilities that come to her without even trying:

Animal Connection; She has a heart for animals. Even ones most consider ugly). The animals sensing this will not attack her. Though I’m suspect about animals driven mad by people. It more than likely is better with wild beasts.

Heart to Heart; Thanks to her empathy. She seems to understand and even communicate to anyone no matter what language they speak. I’ve seen an example of this first hand

Unscarred/Unbroken; By far one of the most unique abilities I have noticed, is that despite after all she has been through she has never broken a bone, or have a scar ever stay on her. Even when something felt broken nothing was. The injuries of the blaster fire didn’t leave a mark once they healed. It worries me that her scars are more internal thanks to not being able to be external. Another area to work with her on.

Next will be to help her come to terms with her nightmares and these visions that are getting more and more persistent.

Finishing up some last touches and then Crystal and I can have our 4th lesson, I think I’m as eager as she is. She is growing so quickly and I’m ready to tell her more about that crystal she wears. I just need to finish cleaning up an-

They thought they had won, but once they put me on board I made my escape, I was glad the children were all secured so they didn’t have to see the slaughter. It is disturbing that once I cleared the ship of threats, I discovered that our ship was on a different course than the one Crystal had been put on. Why?

I returned the children home and set the ship back on auto pilot. I then tracked the ship Crystal was on and used her ship that I repaired to pursue, of course I made so modifications. This possibly will be my last entry. I have stored 2 light sabers on board. I had promised not to use them again after…

Crystal if you hear this message they are for you, I hope you use them better than I ever did. Like me you seem to favor dual wielding, but I made a promise never to do so again. Be aware it’s dangerous to use two light sabers at the same time.

I have put a few things throughout the ship. I know how good you are at uncovering secrets so I know you will find everything. This is not how I wanted things to go, but I am honored to have known you. You have reminded me of things that I had forgotten. You reminded me that there are still people in the world that have an amazing amount of love and light within them. Don’t ever lose that light.

I know that one day you will impact so many. Stay who you are and never let anyone change you into someone else."
