 Grammar and Etiquette Rules:

(See the Writing Advice to learn more)

I typicaly Roleplay (RP) on GoodReads, I do not RP with many people, but rules I use are listed below for anyone that may desire to write with me creatively. (Note: I hold the same rules in RP that I do with my books content)

1. Write in third person, and in past tense.
[Example: "John hurried into the basement." NOT: "I hurry to the basement.")

2. Refrain from one-liners.
[I understand that we are all on different levels of grammar, but please, read carefully what another person posted before you. Then think it over and, lastly re-read what you wrote in response before posting it. Write in complete sentences. Try to include actions, thoughts and feelings in your posts.]

3. Post Length.
[Semi-para is the preferred method of post length here. Paragraph and longer posts however are always welcome.]

4. Limit OOC in stories. (AKA Out of Character)
[Do not discuss plot in the middle of stories (that is for the OOC Chat or PM) we want a clean story not cluttered by too much back and forth dialog. If you should write OOC in a story always use double-brackets at the top of the post. There are only three instances that qualify: ((GuardianWolfKim = to tag and alert whom your post is directed to in large group RP's)), ((Warning of Spoilers = Ruins a movie/game/show/book plot)), ((Triggers = Very violent may upset sensitive people or possibly push rules.)) Double brackets at the bottom are allowed, but should also be limited for example. ((Guys, what was the name of the villain's wife?)) Then in the next post someone answers ((Matilda)), on your post you respond. ((Thanks!))]

5. Watch the Language.
[No vulgarities allowed. Please use sub words, or be creative. Any vulgarities/derogatory statements will be deleted/edited accordingly. No text-language in stories. Such as acronyms and short hand. Write out all you wish to say, see it as a living online book.] (Note: I do not classify Hell as a bad word as it is a real place.)

6. OOC Language.
[Please do not to use all caps acronyms containing curse words either. Instead substitute even the acronym if you insist on using one, for example use instead:
LMBO = Laugh my butt off. Otherwise you can use symbols: #*%! Or be creative with words or use sub-words. (Ex.. Jerk, dude, dang, shoot, blast it, etc...]

7. No advertising for other groups, either in story or OOC.

8. Not Experts.
[Do not expect people to know everything there is to know about the show/movie/book/games contained here. Always warn of spoilers (In and out of story). Remember as fans we may draw from various sources, but don’t carbon copy them. Make each one unique, full of drama and plot twists.]

9. Questions and Suggestions.
[If you have a question or suggestion please don't hesitate, just take it to a direct message/email.]

10. Respect everyone!
[We all believe and love different things/people. As a result, be kind to one another keeping in mind the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" speaking a word in error is understandable, but you have plenty of time to think before you hit post/send. If your words are cruel then keep them to yourself. Other than rule infractions, no negative messages should pass between RPers unless the recipient requested criticism/honest truth on a matter, but always try and speak from a place of love not anger/frustration.]

11. Absolutely no harassing others in PM.

It’s not desired to overwhelm with so many rules, but like legal documents we want to make sure you have no surprises. You deserve to know what we are all about and since this GoodReads RP group is not for one specific universe, clarification is required. We want you to have fun, but keep in mind the Mods are people too and they deserve to be respected. As long as mutual respect is there often we will let you do just about whatever you like.

Writing Rules:

1. All Role-plays are on a turn basis, decide the order before starting an RP.
[Exceptions are classes/events]

2. Powerplay will not be tolerated.
[No GodModding, Mary Sue’s, etc... examples of Forbidden Acts are listed below. If in doubt, the Mods will decide whether it is powerplay or not. You can remind others of the rules, but it’s the Mods who discipline or enforce changes.]

Five most common Forbidden Acts:

A. Deciding other characters' actions.
[Deciding another character's actions or reaction is powerplay. It is up to the person behind the other character to decide what happens to their character. For example: If you attack, they decide if it hits and how much damage takes place. You also can not say that their character sighed or was angry when they didn't say so.]

B. Invincibility.
[It’s not fun to play against invincible people. It ruins the game. So remember even though it is up to you whether your character gets hit/hurt there’s a better dynamic if you get injured once in a while. You do not have to get hit every time or every second time, but be realistic. Training, past experience, skill levels and if you were surprised/distracted, etc...]

C. Showing up randomly and preventing something that your character actually doesn’t know anything about.
[This means that you're character has to be at the place where an action that is to be prevented is going on before it actually takes place, unless the people who write it gives a reason for your character to suddenly be there. For example: The screaming of a woman in an alleyway. We know that all of you can see what happens in a topic, but you character doesn't see and know that. A character can't suddenly pop up as if they had seen it coming.]

D. Hit and run tactics.
[As the title says: You can't run into a fight or topic and attack, then run away. You have to stay, as this gives the other person time to react. Running away before they have time to react robs them of the freedom to counter attack you and therefore also the freedom to act against your post. Such actions will be ignored/deleted.]

E. Everything that prevents another’s character(s) from playing their game.
[Others aren't allowed to choose what happens to other people’s characters' and what other people’s characters' should think/do. An example of this can be when you write that everybody loves your character. This robs everybody else of the possibility of choosing for themselves of what their character should think about your character.]

3. Violence.
[Torture is allowed, as long as both players are willing. Stories will have violence or what may be considered triggering scenes. These include, but are not limited to; blood, torture, brutal fights and death. Violence should not be senseless or gory. For example; graphic dismemberment, but there will be things that any hero or heroine would endure from various evil/sadistic enemies. Such as interrogations, and captured spy scenarios. As always, permission should be asked before any brutal actions are taken.]

4. No Sex/Rape.
[Romance is allowed if agreed upon by both parties involved. Romance stories with my characters are played out as: one man and one woman. For all romance ask before assuming. Judgment or hate have nothing to do with any rules. Please read below.]

Same sex or multi partner relationship go against my beliefs and make me uncomfortable. I do not hate anyone and I welcome all no matter life style choices. I am not telling anyone what they should or shouldn't choose to do/be. I understand how easy it is to get upset and emotional about these topics. Prejudice and hatred is a huge problem in the world today.

I myself have and will probably continue to experience it in many levels. Even these rules have caused backlash of hateful comments and insults towards me. Sadly many people do not try to understand my heart. The last thing I would ever want is to make anyone feel rejected, unaccepted and hated. I hurt deeply from both; past wounds of this sort and when I see it happening to others. I genuinely love each and every person. I simply ask that you please honor both my moral stance and comfort level. Allow me to be in a place where in some aspects I know what to expect.

Just as I respect everyone's right to be their own individual person, to exercise their freewill, I ask for equal respect to stand for my beliefs in a loving way. We don't have to agree on everything to be friends and get along. It is being friends with those different than us that make us stronger and wiser.

So please do not message or email me with ridicule or judgment. I am not judging anyone. If you would like to know more about my beliefs feel free to read under the ‘About me’ section. Also, in chat we talk about the real world. As long as it is respectful and not drama/argument driven. So you don’t have to deny your beliefs to be here, but as stated on the home page. This is my Sanctuary. Let’s be able to get along and not perpetuate the ‘us’ verses ‘them’ mentality that the rest of the world tries to push. We are just people who are all different.

5. Roleplay it out.
[You and another character have only done what is actually roleplayed. No assuming something happened, especially if the other person is unaware of it. For instance, you cannot in a roleplay say that you pranked another character, explaining how you did it and how the other character behaved. Yes, you can say that you pranked your dorm mate, just a general person giving no name attached. If you want to prank another character in the roleplay then you must have performed that roleplay or talked it over with the person and agree it as backstory and explain it in detail in the present story.]

6. Knowledge.
[Remember that there is a difference between what you know and what your character knows. If you know something important, but your character does not, you cannot magically give them that information they must discover it by themselves through RP.]

7. If you have several characters, there are things you can't make them do together

a. Recruit each other from the good side to the other side or vise versa.

b. Reveal information to the enemy of the group you are in.

c. Date each other.

d. Roleplay solely with your own characters. [Say you are in a class, you only have your two characters interact with each other and no one else. This denies others the privilege to interact. It also isolates you as most are not sure if they should initiate interactions.]

Time Limits:

1. Be patient.
[We live in different time zones all over the world, we have lives outside of role-play. So, please be patient when it comes to people responding in role-plays, and when you need a Mod for something. We will get things done when we are able to. If things seem to slow, contact a more active member.]

2. Be Considerate.
[We know it’s not fair for those with school, busy lives and jobs who post once a day to suddenly find over fifty posts to catch up on. We want everyone to be able to have fun and participate. With that in mind, if you are not on regularly for many days at a time, please do not join a large group story/Event. Keep in mind characters pair up and you will be ignored if inactive for three days. Feel free to have a 1 on 1 story that can be enjoyed at a more casual pace. If something sudden does comes up, just message us so we are aware and can plan accordingly.]

3. The three strike system.
[For breaking of rules we will issue warnings. If individuals are unwilling to cooperate or heed the warnings after two approaches with no change, upon the third violation they will be removed.]

Final Thoughts:

It is not an intention to shove Christianity upon anyone, but know that the creator is a Christian and will do and say things in line with their faith. That said keep in mind there may be Bible scriptures posted occasionally in places like Daily Quotes, and prayers to God in Prayer Requests. Please do not engage in any religious debates, respect each other’s beliefs, its fine to mention; your faith, acts like praying, and studying the documents of your faith. Let us all respect each-others beliefs.

Religious actions that are hate based are strictly forbidden, if your character is going to be 'evil/cruel' then be it because of them or past, but do not make it a religious agenda. That is hurtful to people of different religions and that religion you are portraying.

[Fellow Christians I will discipline any actions of hate, prejudice or mocking of other religions. You will not discriminate or ridicule. If crucial to story you may engage in religious discussions, but do not even for story purposes insult others beliefs. Also you of course can mention things that pertain to your characters faith in story, but be logical. If your character is reading the Bible, you in a normal story setting will not jump up and start 'preaching' randomly in a cafeteria. Let such topics emerge organically. For in depth dialog on a personal belief level, OOC, Chat and PM are available. ]

These rules are primarily stated because of my personal experience with receiving prejudice for believing what I believe in saying things like God bless you and I'll pray for you. And then those who when they find out I'm a Christian will purposely try and do things that make me very uncomfortable. I do not plan on throwing a bunch of my faith into this role play. It will come out through my characters actions, deeds and words. And that is fine when it is the same for your characters. I hope this clarifies any misunderstandings.

[Note: Astronomy is the study of the stars and universe, but Astrology the fortune telling. So Astronomy is allowed, Astrology is not]

I also hereby state that I have no hate toward any other persons beliefs. With that in mind please note you do not have to make characters belonging to these faiths, but please respect the wishes stated here. If you have questions on this topic please message GuardianWolfKim

[Warning: Infractions of any one of these rules is punishable by warnings and editing/deleting of possible posts that are the source of the infraction. Two warnings will be given and if an individual does not refrain from further infractions they will receive a strike. Three strikes will result in being kicked from the group. The three strikes rule only applies to the same infraction. Since mistakes happen. None of these rules are exclusive, but inclusive so that everyone can enjoy and have a good time in a safe place. Your beliefs do not have to mirror the beliefs represented on this page, but you do need to adhere to the rules to take part in this group. If you disagree with any of these rules please know that they are the perspectives and desires of the creator(s) of this page.]
