Picture
Name: Kim
Alter Ego:  "The Spectrum Lantern”
Height: 5’10”
Eyes: Blue with a swirl of green around the pupil
Hair: Long Curly Golden blond
Age: 15-17 (though in appearance she looks about 14)
Attitude: Kim has always been a very emotional person. She does her best to hide the fact that in a brief amount of time she goes through a plethora of emotions. She likes to volunteer and help those less fortunate than herself.  She has a strong sense of right and wrong. Perhaps her strongest belief is that no matter what someone should keep their word.
Wardrobe:

When she becomes “The Spectrum Lantern” her hair becomes a bright golden glowing Yellow, her eyes the deepest Blue with a swirl of Emerald Green around the pupil, her shoes deep red, her hands with Ebony black gloves, the belt at her waist bright orange, the costume a combination of violet and indigo, and the Lantern symbol on her costume seemed to glow all colors with the core a bright Ivory white.

Spectrum Moto:

“Despite the Death Dark Ravines
Life will continue with Good things,
Against those of hate, love will never fail,
And fear over will shall not prevail,
Compassion will conquer greed
And pure hope will enable us to succeed!
May the light within never dim
And all praise be given to Him!”

[When asked about the motto Kim simply states that as a Christian she felt the motto should reflect who she was and what she believes. It’s hard to sum up such a powerful thing in a few rhyming words, but she felt this wasn’t too bad.]

                                                            The Forgotten story:

“Long ago, long before Lanterns such as Hal Jordan and Sinestro… back further than many can remember… The Seven gathered; The Blue Light of Hope, The Red Light of Rage, the Green Light of Will, The Orange Light of Avarice, The Yellow Light of Fear, the Violet Light of Love and the Indigo Light of Compassion.

The Seven all in one place met. It is uncertain whether it was for peace or war and on who’s sides the lights were, but one thing is known for sure. As the Seven met a new light came, the White Light of Life. The White light tried to warn the Seven of the impending threat, but the white light was too late.

It was then there suddenly appeared a light unlike any ever seen before… a dark light… the Black Light of Death.  The Black light without warning unleashed a ferocious attack. The White Light moved to counter the assault; joined by the Lights of the Seven. The collision of the nine lights most powerful attacks sent each one streaking far away from the others. Not to fight again for quite a while, but that is not where this story ends… for before the White light had been sent away; the light of Life saw something be born from the attack. A crystal, small in size, but glowing with every light that had gathered that day, but as soon as this crystal of many Spectrums formed it exploded with the very force that launched the nine lights away. The Spectrum Crystals own energy streaking away to an unknown destination.

What happened to this energy? Where did it go? Was it destroyed or did something else happen? With these answers unlikely to ever be answered most had long forgotten of its appearance and assumed that the energy eventually died. Not thinking of it any longer, but...what if that energy didn’t die? What if that energy continued… until it found a vessel? What if that energy sought out a vessel like the one it had once had? It’s energy slowly, but surely lessening over all the many long years, but at last found a vessel… a crystal to contain its powers before they lessoned anymore?

                                                           A Family Story:

On the planet Earth what looked to be a small meteor crashed, but it wasn’t just any meteor. As it fell most of it had deteriorated upon entry, leaving only the core; a very small crystal. It wasn’t long before a heavy rain came and washed the crystal from its crater and into the path of one young jeweler. The jeweler had come this way in the hopes of purchasing a gift for his niece and knew he had found it upon seeing the crystal. He had never seen a crystal so flawless; light reflected through it with beautiful colors. It was perfect; it needed no work at all. Just to be set and attached to a strong cord so it could be a necklace. It would be the perfect gift…

Other than the unique way it reflected light the necklace didn’t seem very different from other jewelry. If you placed it in front of a lamp every color you could imagine would shine out. The crystal passed on from mother to daughter for many generations. Finally as was tradition on sweet Sixteen it was passed to the adopted daughter. They had only had her for three years, but the mother loved her daughter and felt she was more than deserving of their heirloom.

The Crystal which had not seemed anything more than that all these years suddenly seemed to spring to life the moment it was placed on Kim’s neck. A brilliant flash of light seemed to erupt all around sending everyone into a panic. Blue, Violet, Indigo, White, Red, Orange, Green, and Yellow swirled all around. Kim was awestruck at the beauty and even more at the emotions she felt. All at once she felt them, but just as suddenly as the light emerged they vanished and then all was black, the strangest blackness anyone had ever seen. Everyone around her screamed and ran, but for reasons even Kim herself didn’t know she wasn’t afraid. It was as if she somehow understood everything and then that black light too was gone and so where all her family and friends.

They had all ran off, all but her mother. Who came over and simply hugged her daughter relieved she was alright. The crystal all the while glowed in a soft indigo light. Kim later found out that none of them knew where the lights had come from and none were the wiser that they originated from the crystal. She decided to keep it a secret since she herself didn’t know what to think of it. Deciding to take some time everyday to go off and try to lean about crystals powers. She had no clue what to do, but over the next few months she had managed to summon flashing lights, but other than that the crystal seemed to mimic a type of mood ring glowing soft shades that matched her mood.

                                                       A Story of Destiny:

One day Kim and her mom were shopping. Kim hated to clothes shop, but it was time to replace her school wardrobe. In the middle of shopping a robbery took place. There were three shots fired, one hit a security guard in the arm, and two had been at the one in front of the exit; in this case Kim. The crystal glowed a brilliant green and the bullets never touched her, but deflected. Sadly they deflected into her mother who was killed instantly

“MOM!” Kim cried as the robber ran out the door. Through teary eyes she pleaded “Don’t die!” and though that was an impossible request something amazing happened. The crystal glowed and a bright white light shone out. Kim felt energy pass through her arms and into her mother who suddenly gasped to life; no longer hurt or bleeding.

Kim was pushed aside as security hurried to tend to the presumably shot woman. Kim heard another gunshot and before a thought occurred she was out the door running after that robber “NO! You’re not hurting anyone else!” she declared. The crystal glowed a crimson red. She wasn’t sure how she did it, but soon her feet weren’t touching the ground. She felt like she was in a dream and somewhere in her mind that’s what she told herself. “Like a dream…I can do anything…. I’ll stop that monster!” logic didn’t come into her mind; only instinct.

Kim saw that the robber had fired a warning shot at some security officers who were hiding behind a car. Her anger now intensified she charged at him from above, the robber fired at the horrifying sight before him. Kim had flaming red hair and glowing red eyes not to mention a red energy radiating off of her. The bullets this time didn’t deflect they melted. She was so angry she reached her hand out; wishing she had something to throw at him, a powerful amount of energy filled her hand and manifested into a glowing ball. Kim threw it and it erupted sending the robber one way and the gun the other.

Kim landed walking up to him “Coward! Think you’re though because you have a gun!” she screamed thinking he was the one that deserved to get shot, killed by his own gun. A gun of red energy formed in her hand. Kim at first reacted by pointing it at him, but seeing the terrified man start to beg, she wavered. The gun vanished her eyes turned indigo though she was sill glowing red, she picked him up by the collar “No matter the reason… you would have killed innocent people, just for money… ruined countless lives for your greed.” The robbers  seemed
more terrified now than before as his collar began to burn “I’m sorry… it got out of control… I needed the money…they said they would kill me if I didn’t get it.”

In the instant he spoke it was as if somehow Kim felt a part of his mind, a memory. She dropped him “Never threaten a life again or next time it will be your life that is taken.” Kim turned to see police running up and handcuffing him

One officer spoke “Wow, are you one of those Green Lanterns?” he asked, but didn’t wait for an answer “What’s your name?” Kim was taken aback by his words, but looking at the red light she simply said “Scarlet.” And took off, she had to go see how her mom was and then… she had to find out about that person she saw from the robbers memory.

Kim spent the next few months doing two main things; learning about the Green Lantern that protected earth from any source she could and scouring the city as well as the internet for information about this mystery person. All the while honing her skills through the crystal; each time she unlocked new abilities she took on a new name; for the red power “Scarlet”, for the Blue power “Aqua”, for the Indigo power “Azure”, for the Violet power “Lavender”, for the white power “Ivory” for the Green power “Emerald”, for the Yellow power “Canary”, for the Orange power “Vermilion”, and for the Black power “Shade”

She has yet to find this person and many crimes have continually been committed and each time Kim found a person to question they pointed to a higher person up the chain. A person they feared and didn’t know the name of. This person that she had felt and heard, but hadn’t seen clearly. She had to stop them before more people died, but how?

                                                              Lantern Encounter:

Kim began to wonder if the different powers she had experienced could be combined somehow. For the next few weeks she tried this, combining Canary and Vermilion, and combining Azure and Indigo… and so on. It worked! Through many battles she felt she was able to find more of a balance both in these powers and her emotions. Still, she couldn’t manage to get more than four
or five of the powers to manifest at one time.

That was until that day. For a change Kim was spending the day at home reading; taking a break from crime fighting and her normal daily life to just unplug. In the living room the TV blared loudly as she heard her Father and Mother talking about the news “Have you called your sister? She lives down town?” “If the Green Lantern is there, the whole Justice League may show up… oh I hope it’s not a super villain!”

Kim upon hearing that couldn’t curb the fear that people would get hurt while they fought. She had to go see if she could help protect them. She focused and with the crystal transformed into Indigo flying quickly to the battle site.

A man with red skin surrounded by a yellow light attacked a being surrounded by green light. She heard the man surrounded by green call the man Sinestro. Kim let them fight and moved to help people in danger of being crushed from falling debris.

Sinestro laughed “To bad you couldn’t have called on Earths Lantern… oh wait he’s gone on a mission… your filling in for him.” He mocked unleashing a powerful blast that shattered the green barrier the other had up sending the alien through several buildings.

Kim flew up to find the Lantern seeing him badly hurt “Hold on!” she said trying to lift his head

The green Lantern shook his head “No…” he saw the blue glow and knew she wasn’t with Sinestro and right now he had one goal, don’t let Sinestro get his ring. “Take this!” he said slipping the ring off and handing it to her “Don’t… let him get it.” He begged.

Kim took it, but didn’t leave “I can help.” She said focusing on the white light like she had before, but it wasn’t working. She shook her head thinking “(Come on… I know this will work…)” the white light began to glow

Suddenly a yellow blast was fired from beyond the window of the wrecked office building.

The Green Lantern pushed her from its path and without the protection of his ring was instantly vaporized.

Kim went wide eyed “NO!”

Sinestro looked to the girl “Another Lantern?” he noticed she didn’t have a ring on her clenched fists “But…” he landed looking at her his ring aimed at her “First things first, He gave you his ring didn’t he? Give it to me!”

Kim took a half step back, surprised by the sudden blast of light he sent right next to her.

Sinestro demanded “I’m not playing child. Give me the ring!”

Kim’s outer appearance suddenly changed from Indigo to Scarlet, she fired a blast at him.

Sinestro was knocked back caught off guard and a bit confused on what just happened.

Kim flew off thinking “This is bad…” she had dealt with normal thugs, but this guy had powers like her. She was still learning to control this.

Sinestro flew after her, but seemed to have lost track of her. He called out “You can only hide so long!” he said shining his ring at the buildings.

Kim hid looking at the green ring “I… couldn’t save him…I’m sorry…” a few tears fell and the crystal glowed with a vivid emerald light. The ring floated up and as Kim reached for it, it went onto her finger. Something strange happened then. The ring… changed… it was green at first, then blue, red, Indigo, Violet, Orange, Yellow, White, Black and then suddenly it looked like the crystal would. Shining from its crystal like form with a full spectrum of color.

Kim’s costume transformed as intense power and emotions threatened to overwhelm her, but she remembered that Lantern that Sinestro killed and fought to gain control. She had to stop this “Sinestro” before he hurt anyone else!

Sinestro spotted the light and rushed after it like a rocket“Now I have you girl!” he said firing a powerful blast at the source, but when the dust settled. A bright light prevailed and as it dimmed the girl he had been chasing had changed her appearance yet again. He didn’t stand to marvel, but attacked “I don’t know who you are, but you will regret getting in my way!”

A yellow energy shielded her from his attack, as she rose in the air “I… am the Spectrum Lantern.” She said looking toward him a rainbow of colors surrounded “and it’s you who will regret coming to Earth!” she cried as she charged at him. Her emotions at their peak, she wanted him to be afraid of her, her anger grew more and more heated, she thought of all of the people she loved and cared for that she had to protect from his lack of compassion. She was full of new hope in this power, she refused to let him destroy life, and she would use every ounce of her will and kill him if necessary to stop his greed for power!

Sinestro had already been in a long fight and was unprepared for such a shocking unpredictable foe. He fought back, but the girl seemed beyond enraged. He needed to regroup and prepare a tactic for this new enemy; he flew off promising he would return.

The Spectrum Lantern floated there as he managed to get away the lights flickered off, one by one diming as she floated slowly to the ground exhausted. She had burned up all her energy. Shadows were approaching from the sky, but she had no strength left. She fell unconscious passing out before she could see who was coming, friend or foe.

                                                                       The Future Story?

Here the story has yet to be written. What lies ahead? What threats or allies await? Only time can tell and only you can help decide.
